The Business Angel of the Year competition, whose main organiser is COBIN Angels – the largest professional association of business angels in Poland – honours private investors who play a significant role in supporting the startup ecosystem in Poland. The aim of the competition is to strengthen the recognition of angel investing not only as a viable way of allocating capital but also as a formidable career path.
Krzysztof Zakrzewski, DZP’s Managing Partner, was invited to take part in the work on the 2022 Business Angel of the Year, which will choose the finalists in six categories.
"Selecting this year's finalists was no small challenge. Many of the entrants are truly inspirational leaders who, with their commitment, are transforming the startup market landscape. We take this, of course, as a good sign and are treating it as proof that the talk of a slowdown and a marked decline in interest in angel investing is exaggerated. Polish entrepreneurs are still keen to support bold and innovative ventures," said Krzysztof Zakrzewski.
We at DZP have been supporting investors and founders in startup projects for many years. Our experience has been gained particularly in the DZP Future project, led by Maciej Zajda from the Capital Markets & Financial Institutions Practice, and clearly shows how complex and demanding the investment process is, especially for newcomers. In recognition of the outstanding private investors who are at the beginning of their cooperation with startups, our Law Firm has become a Partner in the Debutante of the Year category in the 2022 Business Angel of the Year competition. The award will be presented at an official ceremony by Piotr Andrzejczak, Partner in the Corporate and M&A Practice, who has been advising family and private businesses for years.
The results in all the categories will be announced on 7 March in on the Trading Floor of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The event will be accompanied by panel discussions during which investors, entrepreneurs and business advisers will share their experience of investing in the startup market. A panel on the relationship between family business and the venture capital market will feature Joanna Wierzejska, Partner in the Tax Practice, who advises on tax issues relating to mergers and acquisitions and on choosing tax efficient business, investment and transaction structures.
